This project consisted of fender system replacement and ice breaker repairs for Main, Anchor and Approach piers of the Tappan Zee Bridge; corresponding ice breakers repairs and painting of steel towers. Under a previous contract, Afridi also performed site inspection, existing plan review for foundation and pier structures, hydrographic profiles, demolition sequences and alternatives and design for reconstruction of the fendering protection system at the eight main piers. Bruce Moran of our staff was the Chief Inspector on this project being directly responsible for steel pipe caissons and fender systems installation.
